Owning a home is SO dang fun! Caleb and I love our home and are always dreaming about how to make it perfect. We did the same with our old house in the 5th Ward (which we are now renting out) and continue doing it to our current home.
Our current home is in beautiful Bay View, just blocks from the Lake, with multiple parks, restaurants, and easy access to the freeway. We love our home!
Built-in 1888, it is full of character (exposed brick, a huge kitchen, three porches, and a giant pocket door entry to the living room) and natural light. We have lived here for over a year but are still slowly curating each room.
This is why I am so excited that this weekend we took a trip to West Elm and unexpectedly found the perfect rug for our living room!
Our efforts to instill unencumbered comfort include keeping our living room open with minimal distractions, airy gray walls (Behr Sculptor Clay), and no curtains on the large bay window so as to provide the most access to natural light and views of the exterior. I am happy with our latest purchase, the West Elm Watercolor Trellis Shag Rug because it subtly anchors the room’s modern touches, including the bold chandelier and crisp tailored sectional.

Future Additions + Changes + Thoughts:
- Target Industrial Lamp: My plan is to paint it matte black so it matches our main light fixture.
- Still looking for a super comfortable, but stylish chair for reading & relaxing. I’ve had my eye on the West Elm Contour Mid-Century Chair.
- Looking for a unique, minimalist, lacquer white or matte black plant holder in order to free up more space in the window. All of those succulents were at our wedding on the tables. I painted a bunch of planters white or black and transplanted them. We have so many succulents throughout our home.
- I am in search of a clever way to store magazines until I’ve had time to read them. I subscribe to a few travel and cooking magazines and I have not had time to keep up on my mag reading because of our crazy busy wedding season! I will eventually read them, but they are currently stacking up in the living room corner and driving me a little mad. #ihateclutter
Now that our living room is pretty much complete the next room we have been brainstorming on is the sunroom. We also have been on the hunt for a new platform bed for our master bedroom for quite some time. Are you working on any projects?? Do you love styling your interior?? What are your home favorite stores?? Do you have any suggestions for us??
Wishing you all a fantastic week!
